Scholarship Details
Each year, the Gates Cambridge program offers approximately 80 full-cost scholarships to outstanding applicants from countries outside the UK. Since its inception in 2000, over 2,000 scholarships have been awarded to scholars from more than 100 countries. The program’s mission is to build a global network of future leaders committed to making a positive impact on society.
Scholarship Benefits
The Gates Cambridge Scholarship covers all the essential costs of studying at Cambridge, including:
- Core Components:
- University Composition Fee
- Maintenance allowance (£20,000 per year)
- Economy airfare at the beginning and end of the course
- Inbound visa costs and Immigration Health Surcharge
- Discretionary Components:
- Academic Development Funding: Up to £2,000 for attending conferences and courses.
- Dependent Children Allowance: Up to £11,604 for one child and £16,548 for two or more children.
- Fieldwork: Maintenance allowance during fieldwork as part of the PhD.
- Maternity/Paternity Funding: Up to 6 months of intermission with continued maintenance allowance.
- Hardship Funding: For unforeseen financial difficulties.
Eligibility Requirements
To be eligible for the Gates Cambridge Scholarship, you must:
- Be a citizen of any country outside the United Kingdom.
- Apply to pursue one of the following courses at the University of Cambridge:
- PhD (full-time or part-time)
- MLitt (full-time)
- One-year postgraduate course (full-time)
- Be committed to academic excellence, leadership, and improving the lives of others.
