International Merit Scholarships Overview

ETSU offers a range of merit-based scholarships to international students who have demonstrated strong academic performance. All students applying for admission to ETSU are automatically considered for these scholarships, and there is no need to submit a separate scholarship application. The scholarship amounts and requirements vary based on the level of study and academic performance.

Scholarship Types and Award Amounts:

  • Undergraduate Merit Scholarships:
    • Blue Scholarship: $5,000 per year
      • Eligibility: Requires a GPA of 3.0 or higher.
    • Gold Scholarship: $7,000 per year
      • Eligibility: Requires a GPA of 3.5 or higher.
    • Elite Scholarship: $9,000 per year
      • Eligibility: Requires a GPA of 3.75 or higher.
  • Graduate Merit Scholarships:
    • Masters Merit Scholarship: $5,000 per year
      • Eligibility: Requires a GPA of 3.0 or higher in previous coursework.
    • Doctoral Merit Scholarship: $9,000 per year
      • Eligibility: Requires a GPA of 3.0 or higher in previous coursework.

Eligibility Criteria

Students Ineligible for International Merit Scholarships:

Certain categories of students are not eligible for these scholarships, including:

  • Second Bachelor’s Degree Applicants: If the previous degree was granted by ETSU.
  • Students Paying In-State or E-Rate Tuition: Students who qualify for in-state or E-Rate tuition are not eligible.
  • Applicants to the M.D. or PharmD Programs: Those applying to these specific programs are excluded.
  • Students Without Lawful, Active F-1 or J-1 Status: Only students maintaining valid F-1 or J-1 status are eligible.

Award Terms and Conditions

Undergraduate Students:

  • Duration: Merit scholarships for undergraduate students are limited to a maximum of 8 semesters.
  • Conditions: To retain the scholarship, students must maintain the minimum eligibility requirements throughout their enrollment.

Graduate Students:

  • Duration: Merit scholarships for graduate students are limited to a maximum of 5 semesters or the length of the specific program, whichever is shorter.
  • Conditions: Students must adhere to the minimum eligibility requirements to keep the scholarship.

Combination with Other Scholarships:

  • The International Merit Scholarship may not be combined with other scholarships that cover out-of-state/international tuition costs. This includes, but is not limited to:
