Selection Process
- Initial Evaluation: Applications are evaluated by the relevant School and Faculty based on academic merit and research potential.
- Final Selection: The Victoria Research Scholarships Committee makes the final selection from the shortlisted candidates.
- Offers: Offers are made approximately six weeks after the closing date. In some cases, additional offers may be made if initial offers are declined.
Tenure and Conditions
- Duration: The scholarship is tenable for up to three years. For students already enrolled for more than six months, the tenure may be reduced.
- Enrollment Requirement: Recipients must enroll full-time and devote themselves to their research. Part-time enrollment is allowed for domestic students for socially compelling reasons, subject to pro-rata adjustments.
- Employment: Recipients may undertake paid employment for up to 600 hours per year with approval from their supervisor and Head of School.
- Progress Reports: Recipients must submit progress reports every six months.
- Suspension and Termination: The scholarship may be suspended or terminated if the recipient is not making satisfactory progress, violates university conduct regulations, or fails to comply with scholarship terms.
Special Conditions
- Commencement: Scholarship must commence within six months for domestic students and nine months for international students from the acceptance date.
- Deferment: Deferment may be granted if it benefits the recipient’s research and is approved by the Faculty of Graduate Research.
- Co-tenure: The scholarship can be held alongside other awards, provided the total value does not exceed one-third of the scholarship stipend. Co-tenure approval may result in a reduced scholarship stipend.
- Withdrawal: Recipients must inform the Scholarships Office if they intend to withdraw from their studies. Partial repayment of the scholarship may be required.
- Ambassadorship: Recipients are expected to participate in university events and marketing as requested.
