BackPack-Excellence Scholarship for Women: Introduction
The BackPack-Excellence Scholarship for Women, initiated by a Swiss foundation, is dedicated to empowering women by equipping them with the leadership skills necessary to excel in business and public life. This prestigious scholarship is specifically designed to support talented and driven women who have faced significant challenges, such as fleeing from conflict, natural disasters, or persecution. The aim is to provide a transformative educational experience through an MBA program at IMD Business School, making leadership aspirations attainable for women who previously thought such opportunities were out of reach.
Scholarship Overview
- Amount: Full scholarship of CHF 133,500 (covers tuition, fees, and living expenses)
- Number of Scholarships: 1
- Application Deadline: July 1
- Essay Requirement:
- “Tell us how, as a displaced woman, an MBA at IMD will be transformative for you and indirectly for other women in your community.” (500 words)
Eligibility Criteria
- Institution: IMD Business School
- Academic and Professional Excellence:
- Demonstrated excellence in previous academic and/or professional endeavors, including GPA (or equivalent) and GMAT/GRE scores.
- Ambition and Leadership Potential:
- Convincing demonstration of ambition and the ability to use the education to pursue a leadership role.
- Career Progression and International Exposure:
- Evidence of career progression and significant international exposure.
- Contribution to Learning Experience:
- Ability to contribute meaningfully to the overall learning experience of the MBA class.
- Performance During Assessment Day:
- Strong performance in the assessment process.
- Essay Submission:
- A compelling essay that outlines how the MBA will be transformative for the applicant and other women in their community, including the main learning objectives.

Scholarship: Switzerland Ashesi-ETH Masters Fully Funded-Ashesi University (Deadline July 2024)
Priority will be given to women who have faced significant obstacles, such as forced migration, financial constraints, or family obligations, which have disrupted their professional paths.
Application Process
- Scholarships and Bursaries Form:
- Complete the form found under the Financial Planning section of the MBA application form.
- Multiple Scholarships:
- Applicants can apply for multiple scholarships, but only one will be awarded as scholarships are non-cumulative.
- Non-Sponsored Candidates:
- Scholarships are reserved for candidates who are not sponsored by their companies.

BackPack Foundation Board Statement

Administration
The IMD MBA BackPack-Excellence for Women scholarship is managed and administered by the IMD Scholarship Foundation, established in accordance with Articles 80 of the Swiss Civil Code, with its registered office in Lausanne. The scholarship funds will be paid directly to IMD to cover the program fees.
