MAYNOOTH UNIVERSITY TAUGHT MASTERS SCHOLARSHIPS 2024-25

Section 1 – Eligibility

MAYNOOTH UNIVERSITY TAUGHT MASTERS SCHOLARSHIPS 2024-25: Applicants must intend to pursue a full-time taught master’s degree at the university commencing in the academic year 2024-25 and meet the following eligibility criteria:

  • Entry Requirements: Applicants must satisfy the entry requirements of the Maynooth University taught master’s programme they intend to undertake in 2024-25 and have applied on PAC.ie.
  • Undergraduate Degree: All applicants must have achieved a minimum 2.1 honours undergraduate degree (NFQ Level 8) to be considered for a Taught Master’s Scholarship. Results from Level 8 Higher Diplomas are not eligible.
  • Transcripts: Applicants who are not graduates or alumni of Maynooth University will be required to upload their final honours undergraduate degree transcripts for their Level 8 degree to PAC.ie as part of the standard PAC.ie application process by 1 July 2024.
  • Application Timing: Only students who have applied for a full-time taught master’s programme at Maynooth University by the scholarship closing date are eligible.
  • Offer of Place: Applicants must have received a firm or conditional offer of a place on their chosen programme by 26 July 2024 for their scholarship application to be assessed.
  • Student Grant Recipients: Applicants who received a student grant for the final year of their undergraduate studies will be asked to submit evidence of their grant award. This will be considered where two applicants are equally ranked on final year undergraduate grades.
  • Access Office Scholarship: The Maynooth University Access Office funds a €2,000 scholarship for current final-year undergraduate students. Indicate in the relevant section of the online application form if you wish to be considered. The top-ranked eligible applicant will receive the Access Office scholarship, and remaining eligible applicants will be considered for the Taught Masters Scholarships.

Ineligibility

Graduates or current students of PhD or Master’s programmes are not eligible. Prospective students interested in research programmes should apply for the Maynooth University John and Pat Hume Doctoral Research Awards instead.

Section 2 – Value of the Scholarship

The total value of the scholarship for each student is €2,000.

Section 3 – Allocation of Scholarship

The scholarship may be awarded for study on a full-time Taught Master’s programme at any of the Maynooth University academic departments or research institutes. Specific numbers of awards are available in each department. Where there are insufficient eligible applicants within a particular department, the Postgraduate Admissions and Recruitment Office will reallocate the scholarships among remaining applicants within the Faculty, ranked by highest undergraduate final grades.

Section 4 – Assessment

The Taught Master’s Scholarships will be awarded to the most highly qualified applicants, ranked separately in each department or institute based on the highest overall results in final year examinations. Applicants must demonstrate an overall minimum 2.1 final result in their undergraduate honours degree. Results from examinations taken after 1 July 2024 will not be considered. The Postgraduate Admissions and Recruitment Office will verify eligibility and rank applicants based on academic achievement.

Section 5 – Application Process

Apply online through the PAC platform in conjunction with your application for the chosen postgraduate programme: PAC.ie. All applicants to full-time taught master’s programmes via PAC will automatically be offered the opportunity to apply for a taught master’s scholarship. Supplementary information or documentation regarding SUSI grants or other financial supports may be required and must be submitted by 10 July 2024. Failure to submit requested documentation will result in exclusion from assessment. For assistance, contact the Postgraduate Admissions and Recruitment Office at pgstudies@mu.ie.

Section 6 – Submitting an Application

All applications must be submitted before the closing date. All required fields must be completed. Non-MU applicants must upload their final degree transcript via the online application system. Contact your university’s student records office or awarding body to request a copy of your transcripts. The assessment process will begin after the closing date of 30 June 2024, based on academic transcripts provided. Top-ranked applicants will be contacted in early August 2024 with an offer of a €2,000 scholarship.

Section 7 – Payment of Scholarships

Scholarship offers will be made in August 2024. Scholarships for the 2024-25 academic year will be paid in two installments of €1,000 each. Recipients must be registered full-time taught master’s students at the time of both payments. Failure to cover course fees by 31 January 2025 will result in suspension of the second payment until full fees are paid.

Section 8 – Miscellaneous

  • Non-Achievement of Required Results: Applicants who do not achieve the required results for admission will not be eligible for the scholarship.
  • Deferral and Reapplication: Scholarships cannot be deferred, and recipients who cease study will be ineligible to reapply.
  • Two-Year Programmes: Applicants of two-year master’s programmes can apply for the scholarship in either the first or second year.
  • Continuation to PhD: Scholarship awardees for 2024-25 continuing into PhD or other research programmes at Maynooth University can apply for the John and Pat Hume Doctoral Research Awards.

Section 9 – Closing Date

Submit completed applications via the online application system no later than 5 pm on 30 June 2024. Late applications will not be accepted under any circumstances.
