Introduction
The Global Educators Academy at the AFS Youth Assembly represents a unique opportunity for young educators worldwide to enhance their skills, connect with peers and influencers, and develop innovative approaches to global citizenship education. Hosted in the vibrant city of New York, this program track is designed to empower educators with the tools and knowledge needed to cultivate active global citizens among their students.
Objectives
The objectives of the Global Educators Academy are multi-faceted, aiming to create impact, develop skills, and foster connections among participants:
1. Create Impact:
The Academy seeks to equip educators with resources and strategies to increase student engagement with the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and foster a sense of global citizenship. By integrating these themes into everyday curriculum across various teaching and learning styles, educators can empower students to become agents of positive change in their communities and beyond.
2. Develop Skills:
Central to the Academy’s mission is the development of educators’ skills in fostering active global citizenship. Through interactive workshops, collaborative projects, and peer-to-peer learning, participants will gain practical tools and techniques for promoting intercultural understanding, empathy, and critical thinking among their students. By nurturing these skills, educators can play a pivotal role in preparing the next generation to address complex global challenges.
3. Connect & Engage:
The Academy provides a platform for educators to forge connections with peers from diverse backgrounds and regions. By engaging with a global cohort of young educators, participants will have the opportunity to exchange ideas, share best practices, and explore potential collaborations. These connections extend beyond the duration of the program, fostering a supportive network of educators committed to promoting global citizenship education in their communities.
Impact
The impact of the Global Educators Academy extends far beyond the participants themselves, reaching students, schools, and communities worldwide. By equipping educators with the knowledge and skills to promote global citizenship, the Academy empowers them to create meaningful change within their educational contexts. As educators implement innovative approaches to teaching and learning, students gain a deeper understanding of global issues and develop the skills and mindset needed to address them.
Furthermore, the connections forged among participants serve as a catalyst for ongoing collaboration and exchange. Educators return to their communities with renewed energy and inspiration, ready to engage students in meaningful dialogue, action, and reflection. Through their collective efforts, participants contribute to building a more inclusive, equitable, and sustainable world.
