About the Bank:
Established in 1964, the African Development Bank (AfDB) stands as the premier pan-African development institution, dedicated to promoting economic growth and social progress across the continent. With 81 member states, including 54 in Africa (Regional Member Countries), the Bank’s development agenda focuses on delivering financial and technical support for transformative projects aimed at reducing poverty through inclusive and sustainable economic growth. Objectives:
The primary objectives of the internship program are:
- Provide students with an opportunity to gain professional and practical experience at the African Development Bank.
- Create a talent pool of potential candidates for future recruitment needs.
- Note: While the internship may not guarantee immediate employment with the Bank, it serves as a valuable stepping stone in the career development of participants.

Fields of Study Required:
Interns are selected from fields of study within the job families of the Bank, including but not limited to Economics, Agriculture, Private Sector Development, Human Capital Development, Environment, Finance, Infrastructure Development, Human Resources Management, Information Technology, Communications, Law, Internal Audit, Budget, Governance, or any other relevant field deemed essential to the Bank’s operations. Preference is given to students working on projects directly aligned with the Bank’s mission.
Timeline:
Session 2 of the 2024 Internship Program will commence in July 2024.
Terms and Conditions:
- Duration: Internships last between three (3) to six (6) months, authorized only once for any candidate.
- Work Arrangement: Interns may work remotely or on-site based on the needs of their respective hiring units.
- Travel: On-site interns are responsible for their travel arrangements to and from the Bank’s location.
- Visa Assistance: The Bank assists interns in obtaining entry and residence visas.
- Insurance: Interns receive medical insurance coverage provided by the Bank.
- Stipend: Eligible interns receive a monthly stipend.
- Eligibility Criteria:
To qualify for the internship, applicants must:
- Be between the ages of majority in their country and not more than thirty (30) years old at the start of the program.
- Be enrolled in a master’s level degree program at a recognized educational institution.
- Apply for the internship within one (1) year of obtaining their degree.
- Be nationals of AfDB member countries.
- Provide proof of enrollment or degree, along with fluency in English or French.
- Possess proficiency in standard software packages, with knowledge of SAP desirable.
