The Oxfam Young Leaders Fellowship Programme 2024
The Oxfam Young Leaders Fellowship Programme offers a range of benefits to selected fellows, including:
- International Learning Opportunities and Exposure: Fellows will have the opportunity to engage with a diverse range of perspectives, experiences, and ideas through international learning opportunities and exposure.
- Stipend: Each fellow will receive a total stipend of USD 3600, disbursed in monthly installments of USD 400 over the nine-month duration of the programme.
- Mentorship: Fellows will be paired with experienced professionals who will provide guidance, support, and mentorship throughout the fellowship period.
- Collaboration with Oxfam in Asia and Asia Centre Leadership Teams: Fellows will have the opportunity to work closely with leadership teams from Oxfam in Asia and Asia Centre, gaining insights into the workings of leading development organizations.
- Support for Independent Initiatives: Fellows will receive support to independently organize smaller networks for influencing and campaigning, providing them with an opportunity to apply their skills and knowledge in real-world contexts.
- Understanding of the International Development Sector: Fellows will gain valuable insights into the international development sector, including its challenges, opportunities, and best practices.

Criteria for Nomination
Prospective fellows must meet the following criteria to be eligible for the programme:
- Age: Fellows must be aged 27 or below at the time of application.
- Citizenship: Fellows must be citizens of one of the following countries within Oxfam in Asia offices: Bangladesh, Cambodia, India, Indonesia, Laos, Myanmar, Nepal, Pakistan, Philippines, Sri Lanka, Thailand, Timor-Leste, or Vietnam.
- Creativity and Motivation: Fellows must demonstrate creativity and motivation to drive social change and sustain impact in their communities.
- Digital Advocacy Skills: Fellows should possess skills and aptitude to use digital and other tools for advocacy and activism.
- English Proficiency: Fellows must have a good command of English, both written and spoken.
- Diversity: Oxfam in Asia and Asia Centre encourage women and individuals from minority communities to apply.
- Employment Status: Fellows must not be currently employed and should not take up full-time employment during the fellowship period.
Expectations/Tasks
During the fellowship period, fellows will be expected to undertake the following tasks:
- Time Commitment: Dedicate a minimum of 30-40 hours per week to implement proposed activities agreed upon with mentors for the nine-month duration of the fellowship.
- Attendance: Attend an in-person induction workshop in Bangkok, Thailand, at the commencement of the fellowship.
- Networking: Create and maintain a network of 50 or more youth individuals, fostering collaboration, support, and collective action.
- Monthly Meetings: Attend monthly online meetings and report progress and setbacks to mentors, reflecting on challenges, learnings, and achievements.
- Leadership and Activity Roles: Undertake leadership and activity roles throughout the fellowship, including during the induction workshop, monthly meetings, and end-of-project convening.
- Content Development: Develop content for the “Civic-Asia” website, contributing insights, analyses, and perspectives on key development issues.
- End-of-Project Convening: Attend an end-of-project convening, either online or onsite, to share experiences, lessons learned, and recommendations for future action.
Application Process
Candidates interested in applying for the fellowship must complete the following steps:
- Submission of Documents: Submit a CV, cover letter identifying areas of interest, and a motivation letter via the designated Google Form.
- Recommendation Letters: Provide two recommendation letters from relevant individuals who can vouch for their skills, achievements, and professionalism.
- Interview and Written Exercise: Shortlisted candidates will be interviewed by a panel of judges and tasked with a written exercise to further demonstrate their commitment to the programme.

The timeline for the fellowship programme is as follows:
- Application Deadline: 19 May
- Fellowship Commencement: 1 July 2024
- Induction Workshop: Last week of June 2024 (Bangkok, Thailand)
- Fellowship Conclusion: 31 March 2025
Judging Panel
The judging panel responsible for the selection of fellows will consist of media professionals, inequality experts, members of Asia Centre, Oxfam International, and independent practitioners.
