The Belgian American Educational Foundation (BAEF) Fellowship Programme 2025-2026
The Belgian American Educational Foundation (BAEF) is pleased to invite applications for its Fellowship Programme for the academic year 2025-2026. The programme offers opportunities for advanced study or research at Belgian universities, institutions of higher learning, or research institutions. With the aim of fostering academic exchange and collaboration between the United States and Belgium, the BAEF will award up to fourteen fellowships to outstanding candidates. The fellowships are designed to support Master’s, Ph.D., and post-doctoral research, providing recipients with financial assistance and access to valuable resources in Belgium.
Programme Details
The BAEF Fellowship Programme for the academic year 2025-2026 will offer the following opportunities:
- Non-renewable grants for a period of 12 months
- Stipend:
- $30,000 for Master’s or Ph.D. students
- $34,000 for Post-doctoral Fellows
- In addition to the stipend, the Foundation provides health insurance coverage through its group policy. This ensures that fellows have access to comprehensive medical care and support during their time in Belgium, offering peace of mind and security for themselves and their families.
- Fellows are required to be in residence in Belgium for the duration of their fellowship, which spans 12 months. While the minimum duration of the fellowship is 6 months, fellows have the flexibility to extend their stay up to the full 12-month period. This residency requirement allows fellows to fully immerse themselves in their academic pursuits and engage with the local academic community.
- Fellows can initiate their research between July 1, 2025, and December 31, 2025
- Minimum duration of the fellowship is 6 months
- Applicants must submit completed application forms, undergraduate and graduate transcripts, a brief autobiographical statement, a plan of study or research, and 3 letters of recommendation
- Completed applications must be submitted as electronic documents in PDF format attached to an email sent no later than October 31, 2024

Eligibility Criteria
- Citizenship/Permanent Residency: Applicants must be citizens or permanent residents of the United States.
- Academic Status:
- Doctoral Researchers: Must be registered in a Ph.D. or equivalent degree program in the United States.
- Post-doctoral Researchers: Must hold a Ph.D. degree and have no more than 2 years of research experience since obtaining their Ph.D. by July 1, 2025.
- Educational Background: Applicants must submit official transcripts as evidence of outstanding Bachelor’s and Master’s degree records.
