1.0 Application General Terms
1.1 The Vice-Chancellor UKM Scholarships aim to attract prospective Masters and Doctoral students locally and internationally. Two types of scholarships are offered: UKM Vice-Chancellor’s Gold and Silver.
1.2 These scholarships welcome applications from outstanding local and international postgraduate students seeking to further their studies at UKM.
1.3 Both are open to full-time prospective postgraduate students enrolling in full research or mixed-mode programs (research: coursework ratio 70:30).
1.4 Applications are open to new UKM students who have completed online registration.
1.5 Applicants must not receive assistance/scholarships from any sponsor, Federal/State, or other Statutory Bodies.
1.6 Applicants must not receive salary, allowance, or other payments from any institution or company.
1.7 Scholarship recipients must maintain high performance throughout their postgraduate studies. Failure to meet Key Performance Index (KPI) may result in scholarship termination.
2.0 Scholarship and Application Criteria
2.1 Gold Vice-Chancellor’s Award
2.1.1 Benefits:
- Waived tuition (every semester), one-time registration, and service and activities (including thesis and convocation) fees.
- Living allowance of RM3200.00 per month for PhD and RM2200.00 for Masters candidates.
- Accommodation allowance of RM300.00 per month.
- One roundtrip economy class flight ticket to Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) from the home country and return, provided for International, Sabahan, and Sarawakian candidates.
- Visa costs throughout postgraduate studies (International students only).
2.1.2 Application Criteria:
- Selection based on excellence, either determined by the Vice-Chancellor of UKM or by the Selection Committee.
- Applicants must be registered as full-time postgraduate students by Research or Mixed Mode (research: coursework ratio 70:30).
- For MSc applicants: Bachelor’s Degree with Distinction CGPA of at least 3.67 or a First Class Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent from a reputable university, demonstrating credibility as a scholar.
- For PhD applicants: Master’s degree or equivalent from a reputable university; MUST have published at least TWO (2) articles in Q2 journal and above as the first student author. For PhD Fast Track, candidates must fulfill the criteria specified in 2.1.2 ii b).
2.2 Silver Vice-Chancellor’s Award
2.2.1 Benefits:
- Waived one-time registration and tuition fees every semester.
- Living allowance of RM2000.00 per month for PhD and RM1500.00 for Masters candidates.
- Accommodation allowance of RM300.00 per month.

Recipients must adhere to study periods and academic performance requirements.
Recipients are subject to University Rules and Regulations.
4.0 Terms of Scholarship Acceptance and Extension
4.1 Scholarship Duration:
- Doctor of Philosophy in research mode: Six (6) semesters.
- Doctor of Philosophy in mixed mode: Six (6) semesters.
- Master of research mode: Four (4) semesters.
- Master of mixed mode: Two (2) semesters, or as prescribed by the program of study.
- The Selection Committee reserves the right to consider scholarship extensions for an additional semester.
4.2 Academic Focus:
- Recipients must dedicate their full attention to their studies and refrain from engaging in activities that may compromise their education.
4.3 Performance Evaluation:
- Performance evaluations for Gold and Silver Vice-Chancellor’s scholars will occur annually.
- Failure to meet the Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) may result in scholarship termination or other decisions as determined by the Selection Committee.
